Young Group On Stairway To The Stars

"Fan reaction and recent well earned praise and publicity give Derek and the sounds strong claims for the title of Irelands most promising young showband .  There is No doubt they are the youngest Showband In Ireland the average age only being 17"

 

In 1999 he won Male Vocalist of The Year in The European CMA Awards.  In April 2001 he was invited by Legendary Record Producer and Steel Guitarist Mike Headrick to attend the Chattanooga Pedal Steel Guitar Festival where he performed with an all star band Top Musicians like pianist Ray Rosette, Guitarists like Bobby Caldwell, and the veteran Billy Taylor a former member Of The Leroy Van Dykes Band.

Derrick Returns Stateside

A Quick return Stateside in May found Derrick making a Guest appearance with Leona Williams on the midnight jamboree at The Ernest Tubb Troubadour Theatre in Nashville's Music Valley with legendary Weldon Myrick playing Steel Guitar.  The following day in the Same Theatre he was a special guest with the cowboy church a ten piece band of quality musicians from various top road bands. Derrick performed selections from the album "Living By Faith" which is collection of songs and praise and inspiration.  The Show was broadcast live on the Internet by WSM Radio who also Interviewed Derrick at the opening ceremony of the "New Country Music Hall Of Fame In Nashville" it was at that time he spent some time working on his new traditional album, "Over The Moon".

Derrick & QVC

Derrick was a long time contributor to QVC UK Derrick made his QVC USA debut in May 2001 QVC USA has an estimated 80 Million Viewers with a 30 Million Dollar A Day Turnover.

Tour Of Denmark- Then Back To QVC

During July 2001 he undertook a 14 Day Tour of Denmark appearing on Country radio Shows throughout the region and LIVE TV on the Nationwide TV Bingo Show which has the largest television viewing figures across Denmark.  He also appeared at Country Music Festivals and Gospels Shows from Aalborg and Skagen to Copenhagen and Odense. In August Derrick was Back to QVC (UK) promoting his highly acclaimed "For The Good Times" and "Emerald Country" albums breaking all previous Record Sales.  He also debuted on the German QVC which boasts an even larger turnover than that of the UK.  Derricks Style of Traditional Country and easy Listening has been well received in Denmark and other parts of Europe which led to Derricks Return in November & February.  Leading Danish Promoter Michael Hollaender says that Derrick's tours have been The Most Successful of all his touring artists who mainly come from the USA and Canada.

Back At Home UK-Ireland 2001

Derrick back at home at that time was very busy being involved on Live Outside Broadcasts and studio interviews on Mid West Radio and Highland Radio and BBC Radio Ulster with Hugo Duncan and on London's Ritz Radio 1035.  He also contributed to the sell out Showband Show at Belfast's Waterfront Hall which you will recall was televised.  He later toured Cookstown, Armagh, Dublin, Minehead and Bognor Regis. On top of all this Derrick Had Been doing selective live performances in Ireland The UK with a superb six piece Band, playing tracks from his various albums of country popular standards and Rock "n" Roll also featuring the songs of Cliff Richard.  Derrick certainly was very busy.
