Top country singer John Glenn was a relative novice in the music business when he replaced Big Tom as lead vocalist with The Mainliners.  A short time previously Big Tom had left to form his own band despite John’s lack of experience John was looked upon as the ideal replacement. At the time The Mainliners were one of Ireland’s most revered Musical Combinations and taking over from Big Tom was a large undertaking for the young singer from Crossmaglen Co. Armagh.John’s first recording was “Sunnyside of the Mountain” an old Hawkshaw Hawkins number this was an instant hit and earned him a gold award disc.  John also enjoyed considerable success with the Henry McMahon composition.

John left the Mainliners in 1978 to front his own band “The Wranglers”.  John has a number of American tours to his credit and has appeared at major British festivals  including Redwood Park and Peterborough.

Since emerging on the music scene John has been known as “The Country Gentlemen” I have known john for 15 years and is also a great man for help with charity work.  You can still come across John Glenn on some of The Legend’s Tours.

John’s Highpoint in life was appearing on Gerry Kelly in April 1990.

John has had lots of album’s and videos to his credit
